Our Story
John and Karen Gardner met during college while working in a health food store – Morning Glory Health Foods of Nacogdoches, Texas. They began learning the business inside and out and by the time they graduated Stephen F. Austin University—John with a major in Kinesiology and minor in Business; Karen with a Liberal Arts degree—the couple was committed to each other as well as the health food industry.

John, an award-winning runner, returned with Karen to his Hot Springs roots and the newlyweds opened Good Earth Natural Foods in Cornerstone Marketplace in 1998. “We had a store before we even had a house,” John laughs. Their unwavering dedication resulted in a family business that has served the community—through seminars, consulting, and a commitment to providing the highest-quality natural supplements, foods, and eco-friendly products for the home.

The Gardners expanded their family and their business, raising two sons and moving to Buena Vista Shopping Center on Central Avenue. They added locally-grown foods to Good Earth’s product line and began utilizing the Internet as an information-sharing platform for the latest updates and innovations in natural health. Team Gardner’s hands-on style allows customers to access their wealth of experience and information acquired over the years—a personalized approach to preventative health, nutrition and natural healing that is unwavering.

Good Earth Natural Foods has established a niche in the community as the go-to place for gluten-free and allergen-free foods, providing Hot Springs’ largest selection of gluten-free products. Good Earth’s employees together comprise more than two decades of experience in the natural foods and supplement industry, and share backgrounds in music, literature and massage therapy: Each Friday from 1-5 p.m., chair massages are available for $10 per 15-minute massage.

Good Earth customers can learn about products by viewing short videos archived at the store’s Youtube channel: Youtube.com/user/goodearthvitamin. Also, a monthly e-newsletter and direct mail campaign serve to highlight current sales, specials and discounts, and the Good Earth hosts free seminars to educate the community about innovations and products.

John and Karen are current members and past board members of the NPA Southwest (Natural Products Association Southwest Region). The Gardners love to spend their extra time enjoying the natural environment of the Spa City, playing with their kids, hiking, practicing yoga, and reading.
